Honeylocust

Honeylocust is a native tree in the legume family that fixes nitrogen. In the south, it produces large, sugary seed pods that can be eaten similarly to carob and are often fed to livestock. In the north, the shorter cooler season reduces the pod size and sugar content, but they are still able to produce protein rich seeds which have potential as livestock feed or maybe even edible beans for humans. In any case, it is a beautiful and useful plant. Our seedlings our grown from seed producing trees near the Catskills.
