Chestnut Oak

Chestnut oaks are a common white oak species found on drier soils. As their name suggests, they are also a good indicator of where American chestnut would have been present because they share similar soil preferences. There is a remarkable amount of variation in productivity and acorn size in these oaks, because they tend to inhabit more marginal soils. However, on the best soils, these are some of the largest acorns and the trees are quite productive. We have New Jersey Ecotype seedlings for this species.
